Our hero(s) from Burma
Related to country: Myanmar

“Daw Aung San Suu Kyi,” I heard this lady name since I was 4 years old. I saw her picture with her small child on her back. But, I didn’t really know about her very well and of course I knew she is the only daughter of General Aung San. I knew that General Aung San is our independence leader and I knew that he was assassinated. All about General Aung San is teaching in our school curriculum, especially in history book. We are proud of General Aung San. Yeap, he is our hero.

I couldn’t forget General Aung San and his struggle because we were try to memories every single words that writing down in the test books. His pictures were every where; on our cash, in very house and even in the ceremony deceleration.

However, I was very exciting to see Daw Suu when she was visiting to my native town around 1993. People were surrounding her and that the crop was moving from Bus station to our new elected member of parliament Khun Markoban house. I couldn’t remember very well, due to, I was only 7 years old. But I still remember that she has a big smile when people giving her flowers and kissing her. After that meeting, she wasn’t familiar to me anymore. Because in family, in community and in school nobody were talking about her.

I grew up to day. I’m old enough. In the same time, I starting realize that General Aung San pictures were stolen today. Very few people mention the spirit of independence, the spirit of union and what going on in the country today when they give talk at all. The fact is that the current military regime doesn’t want this.

The Burmese military government prohabit from taking about independence leader and they are arresting people who are supporting Democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi. They change the picture of General Aung San to Lion which it's the military symbol in cash.

Aung San Suu Kyi today is 62 birthday. She is under house arrest for 11 years. Burmese people love her. People belive in her as a good leadership for the whole Burma.

In my mind, I simply wish her release from the house arrest and let her do her political work. She will be the one different ethnic groups trusting and she will be the one develop the nation and restore peace and democracy.
